BEST 2017 TRACKS FOR YOUR WORKOUTS
Let’s face it. Music and workouts are as syncopated as Thelma and Louise. The two together can elevate your experience of getting physical, transforming your workout into a much more enjoyable experience. Ever ran on the treadmill and had a minute left to go feeling more like it was an eternity? Then the best part of your favourite song kicks in and suddenly you feel the boost to keep going, giving more than a minute, and doing an extra two? We’ve all been there in the middle of a heavy-sweating cycling class where you’ve gained the will to go on only because your instructor was rocking some great throwbacks.
MICHI is highlighting some of our favourite albums from 2017 that kept our heart rates pumping no matter the workout!
Yoga is an excellent outlet to clear your mind while gaining muscle strength and flexibility. More and more, music has been integrated into yoga practice since music too is its’ own method of meditation. We’ve had Freudian by Daniel Caesar on repeat for our morning practices to drive our stretch sessions before the MICHI team tackles the day.
Bedroom, club, or studio, dancing is the ultimate release no matter how silly you think you look plus it burns a ton of calories. Whether in your underwear or Impulse Crop Legging, we encourage you to take the time to simply– Dance! With the increase in demand of cardio dance classes (beginner to expert) like Afrobeats, incorporate dance into your workout and see results in your physical and mental health. We love listening to No_one Ever Really Dies by N.E.R.D. I mean, have you seen the “Lemon” video?
TRAIN
Whatever your training routine, you want versatility. You need an album that can pump you up during your warm up, take you through your sweaty training session, then bring you down for a good stretch when all the hard work is done, all while not having to interrupt your workout to change a track. Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 1 by Calvin Harris has the best collaborations of 2017 compiled into one album.
Check cardio off your workout checklist and run! Plug in and listen to tunes that will make you go the distance whether outside or on the treadmill. Training for a marathon? Or warming up for a weight lift class? If you have the right tunes plugged in, running can push your body to maximum endurance. American Teen by Khalid helps us forget that we’re even running listening to the original sound of his consuming unique voice and big 2017 hits.
The admirable quality of music and workouts together is that your choice in tune can influence attitude and execution. Having the best zen-infused playlist for your yoga meditations, and loud bass-heavy dance music for your cardio HIIT class infuse energy, mood, and motivation making things a bit more interesting and satisfying. After all, working out is only as fun as you make it right?
