Behind every image is a story - but this one feels especially close to home.
This Mother’s Day, we’re celebrating Samantha Farruggio - a Toronto-based Pilates instructor, mother, and business owner we’ve known and loved through our community for years. She didn’t come to us as a model - she came to us as a customer, and that’s exactly why this feels so right.
What we’ve always been drawn to is the way Samantha wears MICHI - not just for movement, but as an expression of her point of view. A little unexpected, a little offbeat in the best way. Quirky yet elegant. Feminine with a masculine edge. Sporty, but always refined. It’s her own balance - and it’s what makes her unforgettable.
The Spring Edit is about women like Samantha - the ones who build their lives around movement, who show up fully, and do it all in their own way. This series is a glimpse into that world — where strength, intention, and individuality come together, on and off the mat.

Meet Samantha Farruggio
1. What's a ritual or small habit that helps you reconnect with yourself before you step into the studio or start your day?
In this crazy stage of motherhood, I really need to lean into the daily rituals that ground me — not just before I start my day, but especially before I teach and prepare myself to give my energy to others. Breathwork is a must for me. Taking a moment to pause, breathe, and reconnect with myself can completely shift how my day unfolds.
I’ll do a simple breathing pattern: inhale for four, exhale for six, inhale for four. As I breathe, I talk to my body and repeat simple grounding mantras like, “I am safe, I am here, I am okay.”
It’s such a small practice, but it has the power to completely change my energy and mindset for the day ahead.

2. When you're teaching or moving, how do you express your personality and energy rather than blending into the room?
Expressing who I am creatively has always come through what I wear. Fashion is such a powerful way to show people who you are before you even say a word.
As an instructor, my goal is always to make people feel safe, supported, and guided in the space. Yes, we help shape the energy in the room, but that doesn’t always mean being the loudest person there. I believe that when I feel grounded and confident in myself, that energy naturally transcends to my clients and creates a safe space for them to move freely and authentically.
3. What makes you feel the most confident in your body - on and off the mat?
I feel the most confident in my body when I remind myself where I started and everything my practice has carried me through. Motherhood is the most amazing thing I have ever experienced. Watching what our bodies can create — and seeing them move through so many phases, changes, and forms — constantly amazes me.
When I reflect on my fitness journey as a mom, especially starting from zero twice and rebuilding my strength each time, it makes me feel unstoppable. There’s something incredibly empowering about rediscovering your strength again and again.

4. How does what you wear influence the way you move, teach, or show up for others?
What I wear is almost always a reflection of how I’m feeling. If I’m energized, I naturally gravitate toward more colour. If I’m feeling a little insecure, I tend to choose something more comforting and safe. And honestly, if I don’t like my outfit, I feel sorry for my husband because it’s probably not going to be a good day 😅
What I wear definitely sets the tone for my day, which is why I think fashion and movement are such powerful forms of self-expression. They influence not only how we feel, but also how we show up for ourselves and others.

5. In this chapter of your life, what does feeling strong and embodied mean to you?
This chapter of my life is very much centered around motherhood while balancing life as a business owner, wife, and mother. Right now, feeling strong means showing up for the people who depend on me while also learning how to show up for myself.
The people I love most need me at my best, and in order to do that, I’ve had to learn the importance of balance — knowing when I need rest and when I need to push through. It’s about creating resilience not only in my physical practice, but in my everyday life.
As a mom, it’s hard to step away without feeling the guilt that so many of us carry. Taking time for myself can feel really difficult these days. So for me, strength right now means challenging what comes naturally — which is giving everything to my girls — and instead creating more space for myself and all the other parts of me that make me who I am.
