"I spend a lot of time in activewear, but I don’t like to compromise style for comfort. That pretty much sums up why MICHI is my brand of choice for both workout and athleisure pieces. I love the brand’s sleek, minimalist aesthetic that is feminine with an edge, and that translates easily from the gym to street."
We couldn’t have said it better than MICHI brand ambassador, Sylvia Colella. The fashionable, fit and fierce blogger and former lawyer has mastered the art of living well, sharing it with her followers and enjoying it with loved ones. We caught up with her for an inside scoop on her simple skincare secrets, not-so-stay-at-home routine and drool-worthy designer pieces that hang alongside MICHI in her closet.
Where are you located?
I currently live in Washington, D.C., but travel quite frequently. Southern California, New York and Paris are among my most frequent destinations.
What time do you wake up at?
First thing you do in the morning?
Turn off my alarm, then check my e-mails and social media on my phone (while still in bed).
What does a typical breakfast look like for you?
Grande skim latte with an extra shot of espresso and a Think Thin creamy peanut butter bar.
Any specific beauty routines (morning or night)?
I keep it very simple. In the morning, first I splash my face with cold water to get the blood flowing, then I use micellar cleansing water to remove any leftover impurities. I follow up with a good moisturizer and eye cream. In the evening, I use the same cleansing water to remove makeup on those rare occasions that I wear it, and follow up with a regenerating serum in lieu of a night cream.
What is your MICHI uniform?
Workout of choice?
I love music and dance, so any dance class (especially ballet) would be on the top of my list. That said, it’s hard to find those classes, which is why I go to SoulCycle as often as I do. It’s a great compromise, because you really do feel like you are dancing on a bike!
What does your Monday to Friday usually look like?
I’m a stay at home mom, but you will very rarely find me at home! After the kids are in school I work out for one to two hours; usually a combination of strength training, swimming, spin class, ballet, and/or yoga. The bulk of my “work” involves hours at the computer researching topics and writing posts for my fashion and lifestyle blog. I also spend a lot of time with images; styling, capturing and editing them for both my blog and Instagram account. As I mentioned, I travel often, and when I do I try to discover and show new and interesting places that might interest my followers.
Favorite part about your job?
I love working with talented photographers who bring my visions of fashion to life.
Where's the coolest place you've been to in MICHI?
I loved wearing my MICHI Borderline Pocket Leggings to walk around my old stomping grounds in Paris (with a chic jacket, bien sur) when I was visiting there last summer. I have lived there for most of my life, so I know that Parisian women have only recently come around to the concept of athleisure wear. It was cool to be able to walk around in leggings and sneakers without getting looks of disapproval.
Top three favorite pieces in your closet?
This is like asking me to choose a favorite child, but here goes. A Chanel black tweed jacket that I bought at a consignment store in Paris a million years ago, Isabel Marant black leather crop jeans with laces down the side because they go with everything and are practical but sexy, and a brightly colored dress from Alessandro Michele’s first resort season for Gucci that is almost too pretty to wear. Obviously, I didn’t include shoes or bags!
Hanging out with my husband and children. They make me laugh and appreciate being in the moment.
Gossip magazines and websites, but only when I’m traveling or getting my nails done.
All time favorite movie?
Dangerous Liaisons and/or The French Lieutenant’s Woman.
What song is currently on repeat on your iPod?
‘Star Boy’ by the Weeknd.
How and when did you first discover Michi?
I went to a trunk show at Bandier in New York City and met MICHI’s lovely designer Michelle and fell in love with all of the pieces I tried on. It was not a hard sell! MICHI is my perfect uniform: sophisticated, edgy, and sexy.
